School Council Roles
The Chairperson
I will assist the Link teacher of the School Council and play my part in the chairing of all Student Council meetings. I will run meetings making sure that everyone has a chance to have their say. I will make sure that decisions are agreed fairly and based upon a majority decision.
I will also assist the Vice Chairperson in the preparation of agendas – a list of items for discussion. I will try to make sure that we discuss everything that is on the agenda and that meetings keep to time.
Vice Chairperson
I will be responsible for the agenda at all meetings – it’s content must be discussed and checked with the Link teacher and Chairperson of the School Council before the day of the meeting.
I will stand in for the Chairperson or secretary if either of them is absent from the School Council meetings.
Secretary
I will be responsible for carrying out the paper work and administration during and after all meetings – i.e. minute taking, typing up and distribution of typed minutes.
At the meeting I will write minutes – a record of the most important points raised, any decisions made and how these decisions were reached. After the meeting, these minutes must be typed up, and before the minutes are mass produced (photocopied) they must be checked by the Link teacher of the School Council, before being distributed to each Form representative, so that they can report back to their class.
Link teacher
Mr Griffiths will be the Link teacher. He will attend all Upper Site School Council meetings. He will help the Chairperson in the running of the meetings. Mr Griffiths’ main role is to act as a link between the School Council and teachers. He may suggest items for the agenda, especially things raised by teachers or other members of the school staff and community.
The Student Council may ask Mr Griffiths for his opinion on different subjects, but he does not have a vote when decisions are made.
